University Library Opened September 20th

Our Work Isn't Finished

We continue to need support for this exciting new gathering and learning space for Palestinians.

Please consider making a donation today.

After about 15 months of construction, the first-of-its-kind Library and Resource Center in Bethlehem, Palestine is having an official ribbon cutting and dedication. Bright Stars of Bethlehem Board members will join with leaders from Palestine, USAID and the surrounding region to dedicate this historic new library at Dar al-Kalima University in Palestine on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

This library is the first of the kind for the region to focus on arts and culture. More than 25,000 books and media titles, primarily from American authors and filmmakers are housed here. The library also serves as a center for students, community forums and academic research excellence between the people of the United States and Palestine.

One other unique fact… the new Library maximizes solar energy use. Palestine receives about 3,000 hours of sunshine each year! This is the first building in the Bethlehem region to use solar energy for lighting, heating and air conditioning.

The U.S. Agency for International Development’s Office of American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (USAID/ASHA) provides assistance to schools, libraries and medical centers outside the United States that serve as study and demonstration centers for American ideas and practices. Bright Stars of Bethlehem was awarded a grant from USAID/ASHA for the construction of this new facility.

Together, we can meet the challenge from USAID to match the grant monies in support of this groundbreaking new space. Please consider what you might be able to give today. Thank you!
