Beth Nelson Chase, the Executive Director of Bright Stars of Bethlehem for ten years, left as of January 3, 2020 to pursue other opportunities. The Board of Directors has hired Denise K. Spencer, experienced in nonprofit leadership, to be the Interim Executive Director while it undertakes an executive search. More information about the search will follow soon.
About Denise K. Spencer
A sought-after nonprofit/foundation consultant (founding her consulting firm, PhilanTOPICS, in 2019), Denise Spencer has 25 years of experience leading community foundations (most recently Community Foundation of the Lowcountry), following 20 years in academia. Well-known for writing, speaking, training, facilitation and coaching, she has hands-on experience in leading organizations to higher levels, board governance, strategy, policy, grantmaking/seeking, communications and public relations, fund development and more. Her passion and joy include helping good organizations improve, and working with mission-driven people. Her focus continues to be strengthening nonprofits and foundations for growth and community improvement through effective design and efficient implementation. Her faith has helped her define her purpose, and one of her favorite quotes is “Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” She is the proud mother of Bethany, grandmother of Parker, and philanthropic servant for social justice.
