Hospitality Education Center
-
Dream it.
We’re excited to partner with USAID/ASHA, the Dar al-Kalima Friendship Association in Germany, and you to build the Center and empower the next generation of creative leaders in Palestine. This two-year construction project was originally estimated to cost $1.65 million. Now, two years after the initial proposal, as a genocide takes place, the cost of materials has increased by 30% over the previous estimate bringing the new cost to $2.1 million.
-
Build it.
The center features a 10,000 square foot facility powered by green energy, which includes an educational kitchen equipped with four spacious cooking stations. It also houses a training restaurant designed to provide students with firsthand experience in the hospitality industry. Situated at one of the highest points in Bethlehem, this restaurant offers a stunning 360-degree view of the Holy Land, making the center a landmark in both the city and Palestine.
-
Grow it.
Tourism is one of the primary industries in Palestine, and the Bethlehem region accounts for 70% of that business. The HEC will equip our DAK culinary arts graduates with the skills and competencies needed to play a much larger part in that arena—through employment at one of the twelve hotels and seven restaurants with which DAK has forged partnerships. The HEC promises to stand out as a must-have dining experience overlooking all of Bethlehem with its 360-degree glass dome and state-of-the-art kitchens.
The impact of the Hospitality Education Center extends to providing young men and women pursuing culinary arts at Dar al-Kalima with unparalleled skills. They will gain the expertise required as they practice and refine their craft while warmly welcoming individuals from across the globe. Upon completion of the program, these students will be well-prepared to contribute to and excel in hotels and restaurants in the region, securing high-quality employment that honors and celebrates their culture. Food, education, and hope intertwine in the fabric of Dar al-Kalima University’s vision and initiatives and equip individuals with the skills they need but also serve as a beacon of progress, paving the way for a future where culture, education, and opportunity thrive hand in hand.
“In today's world, we are surrounded by an abundance of dining experiences, yet there remains a pressing need for skilled chefs and dedicated waitstaff. When we launched our school, we were inspired by the eager hearts and passionate minds of aspiring students lining up to join Dar al-Kalima University. Within each of these individuals lies untapped potential and extraordinary talent waiting to be discovered. Together, we have the opportunity to shape the future of the culinary arts, one student at a time.”
