A Rising Star in Fashion Design

At just 18 years old, Raneem is on a mission to become one of the most popular fashion designers in the world. Currently studying Fashion Design at Dar al-Kalima University, she has immersed herself in the world of creativity and expression for the past 10 months.

Raneem’s journey into fashion has been deeply influenced by her family, particularly her mother, who is a talented fashion designer herself and a significant source of inspiration for Raneem. From a young age, Raneem was fascinated by the artistry and intricacies of the fashion industry, always looking up to her mother’s work. After completing high school, she made a significant decision: to pursue her passion for design. “I told my parents, ‘Really, I want to study this thing,’” she recalls.

Attending Dar al-Kalima University has opened up a wealth of opportunities for Raneem. It is a place that encourages students to express themselves and share their cultural narratives. “Everyday here is my favorite, really. The people are so nice, and the college gives you a space to talk about yourself and express yourself,” she shares. The university not only equips her with the necessary skills for her career but also nurtures her dreams, a sentiment Raneem is incredibly grateful for.

Her fashion influences are as personal as they are professional. Raneem draws inspiration from her heritage, particularly the fabrics and styles that reflect her identity. A poignant example is a dress her mother crafted for her, featuring two keffiyehs: one Jordanian and one Palestinian, symbolizing the intertwining of her family’s history and culture. These dresses are a powerful statement, especially considering the challenges her family has faced. In 2015, Raneem’s home was destroyed during the Israeli occupation, a traumatic event that deeply affects her artistic vision and motivation.

Amidst these challenges, Raneem remains determined. Her parents have always supported her aspirations, encouraging her to chase her dreams despite the obstacles. “You should do your dream, even if there’s a lot of restrictions, you should do what you want and what you love,” they told her, a mantra that resonates deeply with her.

As she looks towards the future, Raneem has her sights set on showcasing her designs at fashion shows, particularly in Italy, a country renowned for its fashion. She dreams of creating pieces that are not just beautiful but also tell stories of resilience and identity.

In a world where every opportunity is valuable, Raneem is thankful for the chance to pursue her dreams. “Thank you Bright Stars supporters for giving us this chance to do our dream.” she expresses, embodying a spirit of gratitude and hope.

With her talent, passion, and unwavering dedication, Raneem is undoubtedly a name to watch in the world of fashion. As she continues her studies and navigates her career, she serves as an inspiring example of how creativity can flourish even in the face of adversity.
